Paul Hughes is to headline a bill at SSE Arena in Belfast on 10 May with a special homecoming bout. Belfast will be the first of four cities in 2025 to host Professional Fighters League Europe tournaments, featuring leading competitors from across the continent all aiming to become PFL Europe champion. While Hughes is not in the PFL Europe tournament, he will headline the card. The former Cage Warriors featherweight champion moved up to lightweight and has shown his pedigree by defeating former featherweight champion AJ McKee in October last year. The 27-year-old Derry fighter narrowly lost a majority decision to lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov in Dubai last month. That was a second career defeat for Hughes, who called for a rematch after his defeat by the Russian. His opponent for the Belfast fight is yet to be announced. "All my career I've said I will main event the SSE Arena, and we've made my dream into a reality," said Hughes. "Belfast, I'm coming to put on a show for my people, and I will show you how much your support means to me. It's time to get to work." -

Former Newcastle United and Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic missed training with Al-Hilal because of an abnormal heart rhythm. Local media have reported that the 30-year-old was taken to hospital after scoring for the Saudi Pro League champions in a 2-0 win at Al-Fayha on 7 March. Mitrovic had just returned from a hamstring injury that had kept him out of action since January. "The medical staff has decided to rest Aleksandar Mitrovic from Sunday's training, due to feeling fatigue and arrhythmias," Al-Hilal said in a statement., external "He will be observed by specialists, as his case will be monitored constantly." The Serbia striker joined Al-Hilal from Fulham in August 2023 for what the Premier League side said was a "club record transfer fee". He broke the Championship scoring record with 43 goals in 44 games during their promotion-winning season of 2021-22. Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder expects the battle for automatic promotion to the Premier League to go all the way. With 10 games of the Championship season to go the Blades are level on points with table-topping Leeds United and two points ahead of third-placed Burnley. Wilder's side were five points behind the Whites just two weeks ago when Daniel Farke's men came back from behind to win 3-1 at Bramall Lane. "This is going to be how it is right the way through, I've said all along it's an accumulation of points," he told BBC Radio Sheffield. "We're old enough and experienced enough to know we have to get our heads down and work extremely hard for every result, and I mean every result, because there are no easy games in this division. "This is the unpredictability of the Championship." He added: "We have to concentrate 100% on ourselves, getting the job done and getting as many points as we possibly can. If it's enough, then fabulous, and if not then we'll have to address the next situation." The Blades, who beat Preston North End 1-0 on Saturday, will go top on Tuesday if they beat Bristol City at Bramall Lane. However, if the Clarets back up their 4-0 win over Luton Town with another home success over play-off chasing West Bromwich Albion at Turf Moor on the same night, and Sheffield United fail to beat the Robins, they will return to the division's summit instead. Leeds host Millwall on Wednesday looking to return to winning ways after their 17-match league unbeaten run was ended by Portsmouth on Sunday. Wilder praises 'outstanding' Blades Along with League One leaders Birmingham City, the Blades have claimed the joint-most wins in the EFL this season with 24. They would be top of the second tier now but started the season on minus two points for defaulting on payments to other clubs in the 2022-23 season. Wilder said after the win over Preston that it "absolutely does my nut in", external that the table does not denote United have had two points deducted. He is looking to lead his boyhood club to promotion for a third time across two spells and said he is "delighted" with where they are heading into the final part of the season. "What we've done on the pitch has been outstanding really," he added. "I'm delighted in terms of the position we're in. If it was easy as people make it out to be then why isn't everyone else at the top of the league winning matches? It isn't easy. "Everyone talks about the Championship and the challenges it poses. "To win any division in any country you have to do a lot of things right, and we're going to have to do that between now and the end of the season." -

Men's Six Nations - Wales v England Venue: Principality Stadium, Cardiff Date: Saturday, 15 March Kick-off: 16:45 GMT Coverage: Live commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds and the BBC Sport website and app England vice-captain Jamie George says the Six Nations finale in Cardiff will be like a "World Cup final" for Wales as they seek to end a 16-match losing streak. The two sides meet on Saturday with England in contention to win their first title since 2020. But Wales will be desperate to stop their record losing run against their biggest rivals, according to George. "Wales are going to be so motivated - England against Wales in Cardiff is huge," the hooker told the BBC's Rugby Union Weekly podcast. "It will be their World Cup final. It doesn't get much bigger than Wales against England in Cardiff." After losing in Dublin on the opening weekend, England have recovered to win three on the bounce - and a fourth victory would leave them well placed if favourites France were to slip up against Scotland on the final day. Wales have yet to win this Championship, but George is wary of the improvements they have made since Matt Sherratt's appointment as interim boss. "Everyone has seen the progress in the team, so they are not going to roll over and give it to us," he added. "So we are going to have to be ready. It is a six-day turnaround and there are challenges there, but we will be ready to go in Cardiff. "For us we are going there looking to win the tournament. "Obviously there are certain things we can't control with that, but we will be highly motivated." Despite Wales' travails over the past 18 months, World Cup winner Matt Dawson says England must expect a backlash at the Principality Stadium. "I have a sneaky suspicious something weird could happen down at the Principality," Dawson said on Rugby Union Weekly. "Wales have no right to beat England in the current form. And yet I couldn't call it." Ojomoh steps in to replace injured Lawrence Meanwhile England have called Bath centre Max Ojomoh into their training squad as a replacement for club-mate Ollie Lawrence. Lawrence sustained a serious Achilles tendon injury in the win over Italy and is set for a lengthy spell out of action. It means Henry Slade is set for a return to the matchday squad, while Elliot Daly also impressed after moving into the midfield in Lawrence's absence. -

The prime minister of Vanuatu has ordered the cancellation of a passport issued by the island nation to fugitive Indian businessman Lalit Modi, who is wanted by Delhi in a corruption case. The order came three days after India confirmed that Mr Modi had got citizenship of Vanuatu, a string of more than 80 islands in the Pacific Ocean. Mr Modi, the former chief of the Indian Premier League (IPL), is wanted for allegedly rigging bids during his tenure as the head of the world's richest cricket tournament. Mr Modi, who has been living in the UK since 2010, has always denied the allegations. India has made several unsuccessful attempts to extradite him. On Friday, India's foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters that Mr Modi had applied to surrender his Indian passport in London. "We are also given to understand that he has acquired citizenship of Vanuatu. We continue to pursue the case against him as required under law," Jaiswal had said. The news of Mr Modi becoming a Vanuatu citizen had made headlines in India, where he was once the face of the glamorous, cash-rich IPL tournament. He was a regular presence on the social scene, rubbing shoulders with Bollywood stars and India's elite. But on Monday, Vanuatu's Prime Minister Jotham Napat announced that his country had decided to cancel Mr Modi's citizenship. Napat said a Vanuatu passport was a "privilege" and that "applicants must seek citizenship for legitimate reasons". "None of those legitimate reasons include attempting to avoid extradition, which the recent facts brought to light clearly indicate was Mr Modi's intention," a media release quoted Napat as saying. He said that background checks and Interpol screenings conducted during Mr Modi's application for a passport had shown no criminal convictions. But, he added, that in the past 24 hours, he had been made aware that Interpol had twice rejected India's requests to issue an alert notice on Mr Modi, citing a lack of "substantive judicial evidence". "Any such alert would've triggered an automatic rejection of Mr Modi's citizenship application," the release added. The move is likely to bring relief to Indian authorities. Unlike the UK, Vanuatu does not have an extradition treaty with India. Extradition treaties allow repatriation of people accused of crimes between countries. A day earlier, Mr Modi wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that there were no cases pending against him in any court in India and accused the media of peddling "fake news" about him. Mr Modi was instrumental in founding the IPL in 2008, which has now become a multi-billion-dollar industry. The main accusations against Mr Modi relate to rigging bids during the auction of two team franchises in 2010. He was also accused of selling broadcasting and internet rights without authorisation. In 2013, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned Mr Modi from any involvement in cricket activities for life.
